Review: ELF Mineral Lipstick in Runway Pink

I have to admit that I'm one of those awful people that likes to swatch lipsticks to see what they look like before I buy them - especially for weird shades that I don't want to dish out money on, knowing it will probably make me look like a clown (by the way, one of my fears is clowns with chainsaws ... bad experience at a haunted house once). So one day this past spring I spent hours and hours at Target trying to get the right shade of baby pink for perfect spring lips but it all made me look like a deranged Barbie. I tried everything from Maybelline's Color Sensational in Pink Please to Revlon Colorburst in Baby Pink to Revlon Matte in Pink Pout and it all turned out horrendous. Defeated and with dry, flaking lips, I gave up and went home.

Every time I check the eyeslipsface website to see if they have anything new, I always check the Mineral Lipsticks first. I bought Rosy Tan a while ago (for $0.75 USD!!) and I'm madly in love with it. The perfect rosy shade that adds a little bit of life but not too much that you look like you just went out and ate a person. The swatches on their site are ridiculously off, so don't go off those. The ones I searched on the internet were taken in awful lighting and were super blurry - useless.

For me, lipstick is a symbol of femininity and girl power. The shape is really enticing and I love all the sleek packaging. I don't really thrive off wearing lip products though. I think lip products are the beauty product that I crave simply for the aesthetics. Waste of money, eh?

When I was picking out some things to order, Runaway Pink really tempted me because it's one of the newer lippies and seemed a nice shade of baby pink. Knowing that staring at their pictures would lead to fruitless comparisons, I just placed on in my basket for $2.50 USD (after discount). Normally these lipsticks are $5 and they're well worth it. They are so creamy and moisturizing. I like to apply over a think layer of chapstick just to help smooth out the product.

The package came pretty fast this time - somehow they ship faster from New York to Cali than to St. Louis ... go figure. When I opened the little box and twisted the tube, I was disappointed to see such a typical rosy colour. Then I looked in the mirror and went outside and I cheered up. It's the perfect amount of bright pink that doesn't make me look like a plastic doll. Yay!

I guess my only complaint is that it can get streaky up close and "fill in lines" - whatever that means. It doesn't bother me that much. It also doesn't last very long. The creamy texture allows it to slide off your lips as easily as it slides on during application.

Price: $5.00 for 0.13 oz (3.8g) at eyeslipsface.com

What the product claims to do (from website):
Now you can hydrate your lips and get a lasting soft color naturally! This nourishing blend of exotic oils, natural waxes, vitamins and plant extracts create the perfect moisturizing formula. The sleek lipstick has superior color payoff, glides easily onto lips, and is long wearing. Lips stay perfectly hydrated and soft throughout the day for no fuss, lip loving happiness. All our mineral makeup is 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes.

Ingredients (I like that they explain this):
Jojoba Oil soothes, moisturizes and softens the skin. Coconut Oil is a moisturizing remedy to prevent wrinkles and sagging. Candelilla Wax protects the skin against moisture loss. Castor Oil is soothing, rich in antioxidants and helps to prevent aging. Shea Butter is deep penetrating and long acting. It is needed to restore the skin's moisture balance and prevent visible signs of aging and wrinkles. Olive Oil combats aging and locks in moisture. Tocopherol is a Vitamin E derivative and is a powerful antioxidant helping the skin look younger and promotes skin healing. Ascorbyl Palmitate is a Vitamin C derivative that promotes healthy skin and vitality. Retinyl Palmitate is a Vitamin A derivative that is a powerful anti-oxidant that increases skin elasticity, yielding younger looking skin and helps to smooth out fine lines. Mica ingredients impart a soft focus effect that creates a natural, healthy, and youthful glow that instantly fills facial lines to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Titanium Dioxide is also an important ingredient because of its ability to provide sun protection to the skin.

Packaging: I like the clean white packaging of the ELF Mineral line
Black sleek packaging. I really like the matte finish of this square casing. I love how the macro on my camera makes the background fuzzy : )
Top is slightly curved
See how the colour looks so rosy? This is why I was disappointed at first
The lipstick kind of changes colour as you use it. Rosy Tan was like this too. I have no idea why it does this
Finally, what you've been waiting for! On the lip swatches : ) I am wearing Burt's Bees Moisturizing Chapstick (whoa by the way the colour gets super red the larger I make the picture wth Blogger!? Guess I'll stick with small pictures for the sake of being true-to-colour o_o)
With Runway Pink:

Pros:
- Super creamy texture
- Pretty moisturizing
- Perfect baby pink that flatters skin w/ yellow undertones
- Price
- Sleek black packaging
- Yay minerals!
Cons:
- Slides right off
- Fills in lines/can be streaky

Verdict: Definitely purchase an ELF Mineral Lipstick, even if not in this shade. If you think that you can't pull off baby pinks, this may be the solution for you. I love how creamy they are and they don't dry out my lips (I hate it when it's all transferred to your food or glass, flaky peeling skin is left behind D:). Be warned that if you want to buy all the shades, a lot of them may end up looking really similar. Don't get Natural Nymph unless you want to look like you ate a tube of concealer.

Effectiveness
- Moisturizing 4/5 ♥♥♥♥
- Pigmentation: 2/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
- Long-lasting: 2/5 ♥♥♥
- Texture: 4/5 ♥♥♥♥
Packaging: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥
Price: 5/5 ♥♥♥♥♥

Would I buy it again?

Definitely! Probably in a different shade though because I don't wear lipstick that often so this tube is going to last me forever.

Excuse my nerdy self! While studying I usually wear glasses so that my eyes don't dry out and bother me. I'm not wearing any makeup other than the lipstick either so deal with it xD I got so tired of glare so I paid good money for this nice pair. I am very, very blind.
Panda Hug Tee from Forever21 :D Hehe I love you too, Panda Bear *hug*
The coolest part of my glasses is that the inside is bright green. So whenever I look down, it gives a shock of colour : ) This is an old picture from last summer.
Have you bought any of ELF's Mineral Lipsticks? What did you think of them?

Hope you guys have a great day : ) I am going to make myself go to Borders and study study study D: The MCAT is encroaching and it's not funny wahhh -__- Meanwhile I will treat myself to a lovely coffee drink tee hee. Maybe tomorrow I will take outfit pictures too! [This is my 200th post woot!]

I was not paid in any way for this review; these are my opinions after use. This product was purchased with my own money. Results may vary from person to person.

I wish I saw this before I made my order! I didn't even look for lipsticks on elf because I would have no idea which one to try. Next time...next time...

Elf every now and then offers very good deals. I've been wanting to try their every day minerals. The lip stick has such a pretty shade of pink.

Hi Angie! I love nude lipsticks! I like ELF as well but don't you think this one's too nude or just on the photos?

Thank you for this wonderful review!

I initially wasn't too impressed with the close-up (I actually preferred your "before" lips with balm only lol), but I really like the whole face pics! The shade is perfect on you and really flattering on your skintone. Is ELF carried in any physical stores? Love your green glasses btw :)

I love lipstick! Wearing it makes me feel so feminine. This is such an excellent review! There's so much detail! I've never heard of this website but I die for cheap, good cosmetics. I often wipe off the tester lip sticks at the drug store and then try them before I buy them. I find that works best. I also have a neon pink lipstick that kind of makes me look like a murderous clown... ; )

I love the color but I also hate lipsticks that fill in the lines :( Some of Rimmel lipsticks do that to my lips and they look gross :(

I never purchase a lip product from ELF but I absolutely love their e/s brushes and the mineral eye primer! The only thing I hate about ELF is their shipping cost to Canada :( The prices are cheap but the shipping cost is killing me :(
