Sponsored Post: Flip-flops can be fashionable too

Most of us think of flip-flops and sandals as casual beachwear accessories to be worn while relaxing on holiday, pottering around the garden on a summer’s day or soaking up the sun while at the beach. But just because they’re comfortable, hugely practical and more often associated with dressing-down and enjoying yourself, it doesn’t mean we can’t look fashionable at the same time as wearing them.

That was certainly the case for Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney when he was spotted in a pair of stars and stripes sandals by the Daily Mail. Sure, he may be taking the whole ‘adopting the country of my new wife’ thing a little too far, but you can’t say he doesn’t look stylish. Other celebrities customizing flip-flops to become more than just a casual beach accessory include Nina Garcia, Courteney Cox, Rebecca Romijn and Tori Spelling, all of whom teamed up with a trendy clothing line to launch a special Mother’s Day Mommy & Me flip flop collection.

The collection aims to plug into that age-old tradition of children copying their mother’s fashion style with a matching collection of adult and children’s flip-flop shoes, all of which have been custom designed by one of the celebrity mothers. Every pair of sandals is supposed to reflect the personal style of their designer, harnessing them so that they’ll be fun and funky enough to look great on kids as well as parents.

However, if you think all that might be a little naff – plus, kids copying their ‘moms’ is surely more of an American thing and definitely one that gets boring pretty quickly for the little ones – then check out that the fantastic selection of gladiator sandals and flip flops at Littlewoods.com. You’ll be able to find all the colourful designs you could want for your kids to tread the sand this summer, while a few more grown-up styles should cater for adults whose idea of fun isn’t to match their children item for item in the clothing department.

[SOLD] Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet Loafers

blue velvet, yum?
Do you remember these blue velvet loafers (size 6) that I picked up from Urban Outfitters a month ago? I'm selling them for $28 + shipping (United States only) - I paid $36 for them and they're sold out on UO online. They simply won't fit my little feet after a lot of trouble hunting down shoe pads and trying all sorts of methods. After all this stretching, it will probably fit size 6-7 no problem. Otherwise, they're quite new - I wore them to school once and for outfit pictures another (total 2 times). If you're interested, email me at angie [at] pandaphilia [dot] com.

See more pictures here. See my styled outfit post with them here.

Blue Velvet Loafers

side loafers blue velvet, yum? crushed blue velvet loaf vignette
CRUSHING ON CRUSHED VELVET. Urban Outfitters Cooperative navy velvet loafers in size 6, $36. The colour is a darker richer navy than these photos suggest (more like the last photo). Definitely too big on me, even with thick socks. Time to hunt down some super thick insoles. The soles are also super slippery on smooth surfaces - many faceplants barely avoided in the cafeteria. They make a clacky noise when I walk. For some odd reason, they just called out to me when I was shopping with Sydney and they seemed to go with everything. A trusty pair of fashionable flats, be it loafers, oxford wingtips, or ballet flats are a MUST for my daily trekking around campus. Do shoes/clothes ever do that to you or am I the only one crazy in the world who makes friends with inanimate objects ...

But loafers are yummy like a good loaf of my family's cranberry walnut bread. If these really don't work out with some extra thick Dr. Scholls, then a lucky reader will take them away :) By the by, this was 5th day of the 12 Days of Fabulous brought to you by yours truly, the Pandaphiliac.

Readers - do you prefer flats or heels for everyday?

Kate Spade Fall Fete at Plaza Frontenac

Yesterday my friends Sarah and Alice and I attended Kate Spade's Fall Fete event (9/15-9/17) at Plaza Frontenac, a luxurious mall set in what looks like an old mansion. I had never been to that mall but they have a Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Saks Fifth Avenue, MAC, BCBG etc. Though I came out empty handed, I am in-the-know about what's trending for fall.

This was my first time in a Kate Spade store. Thumbs up for punny labels like "supercalifragilipstick." There were treats and 20% off for all attendees. The store manager Courtney let me take a zillion photos, so here they are! This STL store's furnishings all came from vintage stores in New York and they were so bright, retro, and absolutely cute and quirky. I was also madly in love with the cape she was wearing! Another thing I really liked was their lipsticks - shea butter is super moisturizing and the colours build up gradually from sheer and pretty to bright and popping. I liked Fuchsia Fete but it was sold out but it's online yay.

Conclusion: So much pink! I didn't even realize that until I started editing photos. If you have a Kate Spade near you, this Fall Fete event is still happening this weekend! Go check it out - they will surely pamper you and you'll get your dose of eye candy. Ultra win. Thanks so much Courtney and all the girls at Kate Spade STL for such a fun experience and great customer service!

Being very ambitious here and including two sponsors, an outfit, and humour all in one post. In this outfit (6/16) I'm wearing another beautiful pair of petite shoes courtesy of Alonai.com. Mary jane strap with espadrilles material for the wedge, great for a summer work outfit. The klutz I am, tumbled down the stairs in front of a bunch of doctors trying to walk and keep the wind from tossing my skirt up at the same time.

Speaking of which, I AM SO EXCITED to show you this polka dot skirt with an asymmetrical hem! It's such a unique interesting piece that screams retro summer. The shorter side cools my body and the longer side keeps me cozy in the A/C lab, or maybe it's all in my head. I also get the feeling that the decision was made based on the nice belt that came with it - originally it was a red patent skinny belt but I switched it out for yellow because it'd be more loved in the wardrobe.

I originally found the perfect deep red fitted tee at Pitaya too but I didn't want to shell out the $12 so there was a mad hunt for red october tshirt at Walmart in between shopping for groceries. If this is Walmart's idea of an XS ... I'm not going to finish that sentence. It fits like a M on me but at least it was only $5. Forever 21 didn't have a solid red shirt the last time I checked in-stores and online.

Jump shots are now captured mid-air and crisply thanks to the T2i. Oh how you've made my life complete. No, not the camera - the photographer. For once I took some shots of JJ and I'm mighty proud of his cam skills. One last thing to address. Yup! That's my housemate stalking me in the background, pretending to be a deranged fan xD We had a lot of good laughs. But truth is, she's super stunning, visibly in the last Dior-sunglasses-commercial-worthy shot (that I proudly snapped). Now to watch Black Swan and celebrate a late night in! Transformers 3 after work tomorrow - excite.

Southern Girl, from Southern California

After successfully wearing a sheer dress to work (with the aid of layering a-plenty), I quickly changed out some pieces for a "how to wear sheer for a walk in the park" look (6/15). Minus cardigan, flats and jeans, plus floppy hat and skirt underneath and my new teeny tiny Alonai slingback heels. They look so summery with this dress and I just want to pop my leg up. Pop pop! Alonai is so kind to giveaway pairs of shoes for my readers soon. Meanwhile, join my Pandaphilia x Weldon Owen stylebook giveaway that ends this Wednesday!

Remember this floppy sunhat from H&M? I tried on a kelly green on in this fitting room review. Instead of squashing my white one from last summer to death in my suitcase, I just decided to go with a more colourful one. Can't wait to wear this in the Ozarks and this sheer dress over my bikini : ) This vacation is going to be amazing and of course there's shopping too.

Meanwhile I've been going at the MCAT pretty hardcore this weekend. My housemates and I watched Predators on Netflix at home and I have to say, the old technology from the 80s with a beastly version of our former Cali governor beats supreme bokeh and Adrien Brody. Life is catalyzed by cups of coffee sitting at hand's reach but steadily equilibrating with room temperature. What is an enzyme that can speed up the week and fast forward until Friday? rebeccablackase? Oops, my nerd is showing.
