H&M Conscious Collection & Summer Fitting Room Review

At last, the long-awaited H&M Conscious Collection! About 3 weeks ago, I ventured to the mall to check out the hyped all-in-white clothing that toted environmental consciousness with their 100% organic cotton products (this was also the day of my return policy fiasco). I was actually really disappointed with the limited items in stock at the Galleria and how all the small sizes had already run out. With the items that were left, I found that everything was super sheer in an unflattering way and out of my price range. I'd have to check when I'm back in San Diego for the items I've been eyeing all season long. Here is a review of some of my findings from the collection, as well as some cute summery items.

1) H&M Conscious Collection one-shoulder tulip-hem white dress, Euro size 4 ($50 USD)
Absolutely gorgeous and simple, with a flattering one-shoulder style and tulip hem. I wasn't in love with the price tag, which was the major deterrent. My favourite piece of the collection and the satin banding adds a beautiful touch. The ruching is also in many directions and not over the top.
- Verdict: Pass due to the price, but hopefully it'll go on sale.

2) H&M Conscious Collection white boyfriend blazer, Euro size 8 ($50)
I think this blazer has been a letdown for most people who have been wanting it since press photos were released. First of all, there were no small sizes left so I had to grab a size 8 just to see what it looked like. Super oversized sheer blazer is a no-go for me. It looks like a floppy lab coat with 2 buttons, and you can see the washer instructions tag through the sheerness. Also, way too overpriced for the quality. I'm not sure it would have looked good in a size 2 on me either.
- Verdict: Pass, disappointed.

3) H&M Conscious Collection fringed crochet vest in black, Euro size 4 ($10 USD)
I really, really liked this spunky piece because it was so odd and different. I think the white one looked better in photos but they didn't have any in stock. The crochet pattern and fringe represent two hot trends this summer and the price was very budget-friendly. Lace-hooks for a buttoned-vest look but I like wearing it open
- Verdict: Purchased
4) H&M Conscious Collection white prairie maxi skirt with floral eyelet detail, Euro size 4 ($20)
I was really excited when I saw the press photos but on me, it's just see-through and unslimming. At 5'3", it would be a nightmare to walk in too. The pros are the beautiful floral eyelet detailing at the bottom and a romantic prairie girl look if you're really tall. Good price too.
- Verdict: Pass, too long

Other H&M finds for the summer:
5) Green floppy sunhat with hole detail (couldn't find a better way to say it lol), Onesize ($13 USD)
I already have a sunhat at home, but I liked the spunky colour. This floppy sunhat adds instant chic to any summer outfit and comes in many colours. I also like the hole effect and shadows it creates.
- Verdict: Pass, already have a sunhat

6) Swallow print tote bag ($13 USD)
I go gaga over anything with swallow print. Who doesn't? I never find myself using totes because they don't zip up and hold all the stuff I like to drag around with me.
- Verdict: Pass

7) Salmon wood-heel strappy sandals, size 5 ($35 USD)
The colour is nice and summery but I can't see myself wearing these to work or on the weekends. They're not dressy or crazy enough and yet have a heel. I also have wayyy too many pairs of shoes.
- Verdict: Pass, price

I hope you found this useful and have better luck hunting down your picks from the collection. Shoutout to my friend and college-mate Andrea - thanks for telling me you read my blog and like the fitting room reviews :) Speaking of which, I am officially done with junior year of undergrad. I can't believe that I only have one more year left. College is gruesome work-wise, but I have met some of the most interesting and amazing people and made life-long friends. I never, ever want to graduate. But I could definitely see myself not doing work, like this brief respite after my last final muahaha xD

Good luck to anyone else finishing up with finals! Happy S U M M E R 2011!

Ahh there was a Korean celeb wearing that white H&M dress to a red carpet! loves it! and I have the same issues with finding a maxi skirt/dress that doesn't need hemming :( Great reviews, I sure found it helpful since we agree on a lot! haha
