FOTD: Heliotrope is a Shade of Purple

Did you know that? Heliotrope? It's apparently named after the flower. The endless things you learn on Wikipedia ... I've been a little under the weather today but that's probably because I forced myself to stay awake the entire night and day (since 11 PM yesterday) til now, about 11:30 PM a day later. To prevent myself from caving in and messing up my chances at a diurnal sleep schedule yet again, I went to Borders and guzzled coffee working some MCAT Inorganic Chemistry problems. For not sleeping, I did okay. I had more focus that I ever do at home, so I think I will be returning to the bookstore quite often.

Anyway, yesterday was my brother's junior high graduation and I felt I should slap on some makeup. I think in the bright light of June gloom, my makeup looked a little scary and disturbing (call .. girl ..), but I think it turned out fine in photos. My eyes were realllly purple and lips were super light fuschia. I need to fix that bathroom light when I apply my makeup xD

Haha don't get all excited for this bright crazy look, I was playing with Vibrance and Saturation on Photoshop xD I did not rub Cheesy Poofs all over my face, I promise.

I don't know why this eye's mascara looks so much cleaner xD Fiberwig works great on lower lashes too! I was in a bigggg hurry

The lipstick looks really really pink under gloomy yet bright skies, if you know what I mean. Odd. I basically dabbed bright red lipstick over a matte nude one.

Now for the jewelry showcase! These are some old earrings from probably as early as junior high. I have boxes and boxes filled with earrings but I'm usually too lazy to wear them xD

And now my new favourite necklace: the hummingbird layered one I redeemed from Chictopia Rewards :D It's superrrr cute and the first time I saw this necklace was on Aney's blog when she featured her silver version of this precious piece. I thought that I wouldn't like the gold but I actually really like this necklace in a warm tone. The only problem with it that the beaded chain likes to catch and get stuck on other pieces of the necklace so I have to constantly untangle it. The hummingbird is my favourite part - oh bird imagery is timeless.

Still trying to grow out my hair. I like my currently hair colour in the shade but when I step under bright sunlight, it almost matches my skin D: (okay, I jest). Should I dye it black? Maybe even foregoing my natural dark brown. BLACK. Should I risk it? I dyed my hair April .. so it may be a bit soon. You tell me, lovelies :D

It's a Beautiful Day in This Neighborhood

Hi guys :D I'm pretty bored, nocturnal, studying the lac operon for the MCAT, listening to Glee soundtrack. While my mom and I were taking Lucky, my golden retriever out for a walk around the neighborhood last week, I brought along my camera to snap some shots of cool flora for a little Walkabout San Diego.

I learned that:

1. There is some WEIRD stuff out there. You can pretty much drop anything down on the ground and it will grow a plethora of oddness. I am one of those people that shrivel and die in homogeneity, so I thrive for diversity in my local plants too so sue me (Okay don't. That wouldn't be very nice).

2. Lizards are everywhere! They're so cool :D

3. My camera is pretty darn awesome at picking up colour. Oh the things in life that make me happy.

4. Sidewalks are very difficult to walk on if you live someplace mountainous. Which I do. Odd, eh? San Diego local forecasts report 3 places: oceanside, mountain, desert, all within 30 minutes of where I live. The main divider to tell if you're going to have a wildfire or not is a major highway. Another oddity. And Mexico is right there. It's kind of weird thinking that you're a leisurely drive away from another country.

Cactaurs! (Shoutout to all my fellow Final Fantasy fans out there)

Cacti come in all shapes and sizes. I think my favourite are actually the big juicy round ones that grow by the side of the road. Here's your prototypical one. Looks way better than the bug-eaten dried up ones I found pretty much the entire way from Arizona to here.

 

Fuzzy cactaur, anyone? My mom said that it's a baby cactus with baby fuzz - it hasn't earned its spikes yet fu fu fu. I'm not sure about that though. Kind of creepy

This plant looks like death. So random and omnious looking! I didn't feel the texture but it looks kind of waxy

This tree looks fake. Seriously, doesn't it? Like a badly made Christmas tree. Oddly enough it's real and I think there's one currently growing on the side of the road ... looks like a giant spiky plant with weird furls coming out of it. Like some alien deranged palm o_o

Bird of Paradise. I like this plant. It's so interesting. Can you tell that it's shaped like a bird's head with the beak and everything? There are prettier ones at Balboa Park. I will definitely snap away like a crazed tourist next time I'm there : )

Last but not least, some critters! Here is Lucky, my puppy boy. I still call him that even though he is 10 years old omigah. Still cute as a button!

Lizard! With a healing tail, apparently. I super zoomed this pic to avoid the sneaky little thing running off again. They're cute and tiny in reality. Oh mannn this makes me want to go to the zoo! I really miss The Toledo Zoo. I still remember when I was little my parents took my brother and me to the reptile house and my brother, about 2 years old at the time, showed a huge iguana who's boss by throwing its tail over the side of the walkway to clear room for us. He thought reptiles shouldn't be exempt from common courtesy of sharing the road with human visitors xD ahahaha! Don't worry. No animals were hurt in the making of this precious story. I miss open zoos, where the animals wander about. I don't like seeing them caged up in tanks and stuff : (

MTV Movie Awards: Popularity Contest Gone Terribly Wrong

Aaaaa so full of Costco pizza :D It was the first time I ever went to Costco so I was pretty excited. I think my favourite purchase was a huge packet of multi-flavoured Hi-Chew candies. If you haven't tried them, you need to get your hands on some!

So last night was the MTV Movie Awards. I normally don't watch these kind of award ceremonies, but my brother wouldn't change the channel so I decided to see what it was all about. I think it was the worst way I could have spent 2 hours of my life. The whole evening was full of staged, random/inappropriate nonsense ... I can't believe people are actually entertained by this.

Without further ado, the list of things that we could have done without:

1) Excessive profanity
Sure, everyone curses - I'm certainly no exception (you should have heard me this morning when my brother sprayed Axe again all over my bedroom), but seriously? The guy who played Carlisle just littered his acceptance speeches with the f word. Was that necessary? Well, that was the entire show. I heard more bleeping than actual words spoken in that 2-hour span.

2) Twilight won everything
Big surprise. Talentless popularity contest, right? I admit, I loved Twilight when it came out as books but by the third novel, it just turned into a spawning ground for squeezing money out of overly-hopeful females. For what it's worth, vampires and werewolves aren't real. As much as I like folklore, in this messed up world of messed up relationships, no girl should ever turn down a real guy for dreams of falling in love with teenage version of Dracula. For what it's worth, my boyfriend treats me much better than Edward or Jacob treats Bella. HAH in your face! See full list of winners here.

3) Asian guy from The Hangover's interpretive dance
Ken Jeong was prancing about in a skin-tight tiger leotard. What an embarrassment.

4) Awkward kisses
Sandra Bullock with Scarlett Johansson? What? I thought they were both ladies. I still don't understand what that was all about and I respect both women as actresses. Worst kiss for the Best Kiss winners: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. They ran around in circles on stage and kept putting it off, she slapped him at one point, then they finally smashed faces for a split second and called it a day. Oh yeah, I pity them too, their feet were getting tired of walking on stage every 5 seconds to accept another award *rolls eyes*

5) Kristen Stewart
The more I look at her the more I dislike her. Her terribly awkward and rushed acceptance speech kind of spoke, "Oh whatever, another thing to toss in the dumpster. Thanks everyone. I'm nervous and can't act." Also, that Dolce & Gabanna dress she wore didn't flatter her chest at all. I just highly dislike actors and actresses who are popular by luck and not talent. I'll take Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep any day over Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox, and yes, junior high celebrity crush Orlando Bloom. I'll give it to Taylor Lautner that at least he can do martial arts and act.

6) Katy Perry's outfit
Blue wig, boobs pushed up so sky-high I bet astronauts in orbit could have seen them closely. Yikes. And her song, California Girls, is super catchy but I don't like that the lyrics are insinuating that all California Girls are blonde, slutty, and spend all day humping at the beach. Not classy. Eye makeup isn't bad though.

7) Can you believe that's Tom Cruise?
I don't think it's bad at all, but I'm just impressed actually. Tom Cruise got down in Tropic Thunder garb and danced a number with a sequiny, sparkly JLo.

8) Tom Felton beat out Cristoph Waltz for Best Villain
Booo. Anyone who saw Inglorious Basterds knew how brilliantly Hans Landa conducted villainy. As far as I'm concerned, Draco Malfoy never really did anything right. I didn't like the two people dangling above Tom's head as he tried to give his acceptance speech.

That's it for my rant. If I offended any Twilight fans, know that the power of your love for a fictional vampire (or werewolf) will eventually save the world from nuclear explosions and contain the BP oil leak.

Just so you know, I am planning on watching Twilight: Eclipse in theatres with my boyfriend. Somehow, the awful humour and acting catalyzed the beginning to our "saga." It's an annual tradition : ) I'm just sad it's not released during November, when our anniversary usually is.
