Usually on planes, I'm out cold before we clear the runway, but today I felt excited and productive in-flight. This was an outfit I wore when visiting JJ in Pitt (5/24/13). My Dalmatian "party pants" are still a lively favourite and get good wear for dancing and those weekdays that need a good pick-me-up. My quirky detail of the day was my black & white polka dot earrings to mirror the pants. Sheer is a cool look, but requires extra layers and steps to prevent the unclassy - in my case I always reach for a nude tank top to maximize the sheer effect. Finish off with strappy sandal wedges and a metallic clutch.

The past month has flown by in a giant blur of med school, research, getting swole at the gym, hanging out and catching meals with friends new and old, going "home-home" to Toledo and visiting Ann Arbor. WORST TITLE EVER. So, the only time I lugged out my SLR during my China trip was for this outfit photoshoot (sad, I know). My eldest uncle is into photography too, so we went all around our neighborhood in Beijing, posing in front of fruit stands, in parks, even stopping in an underpass (7/2). Thanks Dad for taking these photos! Something about the kelly green and spiked headband makes me think of the Statue of Liberty ... creativity bust.

I must have felt extra punny and cheeky that morning once I dug out the laugh-out-loud sushi shirt JJ got me from San Fran from my suitcase (which I have effectively been living in all summer). Then I got all matchy matchy and whipped out the trusty then-new detachable peter pan collar ($7) to balance the sequined black skirt on the bottom ($7). I like that the sequins create a hidden design and are matte so it's not too overwhelming during the daytime. Because it was so on-sale for a boutique item, JJ's mom bought it when we were shopping in Los Gatos and later surprise-gifted it to me.

I don't even understand why they're called "Peter Pan" collars - they look more like something wendy would wear. And if you can't remember, the little flying fella actually wore V-NECK POLOS ... if that's not a faux pas then I don't know what is. Still, ugly yet shocking things like Lady Gaga's meat dress go down in history along with George Washington's fake teeth (you do remember our childhoods' rendition of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, don't you?). These detachable collars probably aren't a good idea during the heat of summer, because as I remember Beijing was entirely muggy and a zillion degrees the entire time, making accessorizing impractical.

So scatterbrained today. Should be packpackpackpacking.

COLOUR OF THE YEAR. So I've been wearing bright orange since many years ago, so I declare hipsterdom over whatever Pantone will decide for the 2013 colour of the year as well. Keeping it super simple, since all my traveling this summer has led to no-makeup-wearing, no-accessorizing, simple no-ruffles-no-fluff, barely-can-even-call-them outfits. I would call it minimalistic but that would imply effort and crafting simplicity instead of laziness. For a family dinner with my dad's boss and his wife (hi! I'm super flattered they read my blog) and watching the long-awaited Pacific Time NBC broadcast of the London Olympics opening ceremony today (7/27). I tweeted my thoughts on the outfits during the Parade of Nations but after a while it got harder to keep my eyes glued to both screens at once. Fashion recap post tomorrow!

Thanks Dad for these quick snaps before the sun dipped below the horizon. Forgot my orange faux leather bag in the hurry but it's been a handy gift from JJ's Mom that surprisingly goes with everything. Along with my mithril silver sweater, this is so casual I could sleep in it. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BLOG. The past few days have been cray and hectic (note: cray > hectic in measured chaos) because I'm finally organizing everything for my impending move to start med school. Guys, this is insane. Back to the Midwest in 7 days!! Should I do that big reveal I've been talking about forever now? Okay. I'm going to OHIO STATE Med School and proud to be a Buckeye again. Ohio has always been my home, filled with friends close enough to be family. Rest assured, I will keep blogging because it is the stress outlet I dearly need and cherish. My goal is to become more of a person of ritual and habit than the spontaneous mess I am now, so an hour a day dedicated to you guys is more than possible.

ROMPERS MAKE PEEING QUITE THE SCENE. Another eventful (Easter) Sunday, brunching and running around in slouchy outfits (4/8). A friend came over to our place for the first time and we drove the Cherokee Street for authentic Mexican tacos and burritos at La Vallesena (2801 Cherokee Street St. Louis, MO 63118 (314) 776-4223). Their Spicy Shrimp Quesadillas are omfg-amazing ... I want to eat 6 more right now. Since it's a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, we handful of kids merited a few curious looks. I shyly used a bit of my Spanish to remark on how "todo es muy sabrosa" but my brain couldn't churn fast enough to say anything else besides "gracias, gracias."

THE MOST AWESOME MOMENT: discovering that they carry half liter Coca Cola in glass bottles - how freaking awesome is that?! I'm even convinced it tastes better since I'm no frequent soda-drinker. It feels like playing a clarinet every time you take a sip haha. On the way back we were going to stop at the donut shop that opens at midnight (Jon Donut), but of course it was closed since it was the middle of the afternoon ... boo. The rest of today was spent lounging about, watching ANTM/New Girl and being moody, then finally hopping on my bike to the library where I got some writing done. Now it's 2:30 AM and yawns are ringing through the house. Happy Monday, y'all.

Brittany S. Pierced

SCALLOPED & PIERCED. I finally manned up and got my cartilage piercing (7/9)! And no, I didn't go through with the DIY at-home disaster or Claire's shatter-prone guns - I went to a professional (Scotti) at Iron Age, a tattoo parlour. It was super quick and surprisingly painless and I love the results! Badass? Check. More unnatural holes in my body? Check.

It's funny that I wore soft pastels and my Threadsence/Lush mint scallop hem shorts to get a hardcore little steel hoop threaded through my cartilage. Contrast is for more than photo editing. I know a lot of you have been waiting to see these shorts styled - apologies for the wait and backlog of posts! It's really easy to throw them on with anything and go - pockets are nice and deep, the length is on the conservative end, but overall the fit is poor. The waist is too loose for an S and when I put anything heavy in the pockets, the shorts are dragged down. The butt area is unflattering, but maybe I need a little Booty Pop action too. This was the day I hit the mall post-piercing and got my double-faced Urban Outfitters watch. It's just too unique of a quirky timepiece to pass and I must say it's been getting its wear! I've retired the pink panda watch from the Taipei zoo for now - that's how much I like this watch. Currently black face is set to San Diego time and white to STL (not that I can't +/- 2 hours in my head). Also, I went Skittles-happy at UO with the nail polish. The ear cuff/earring chain is something I've been seeking forever and I finally found one at Icing. The wrapping-leaf ear cuff I also picked up unfortunately is made for the right ear exactly where I got my piercing, so I'll be selling it in my blog sale soon. It's super pretty and gives off a boho/elvish vibe.

Things to address: Yay I am getting more patient with making easy collages in Photoshop. Apricot cheese from Trader Joe's - goes well with white wine and crackers, but actually not that great alone. Still, fruity cheese is pretty awesome. I threw on my Ann Taylor white blazer for a fancy schmancy secret bar party and changed into my white chunky low pumps for a "smart casual-ish" look. Housemates made yummy rice balls with furikake yummm. Okay, time to stop writing an unnaturally long post with an unnaturally large compilation of photos. Have a great week! This is my last before I start my senior year in college ... time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana.

Ahhh. Saturdays (7/23). Letting my hair revel in all its frizzled waviness, glasses on for maximum librarian cheekiness (chic-iness?), grabbing a late lunch at one of the local restaurants a few paces from my place. JJ and I split two CBW Teriyaki and Fajita wraps, the former being smaller but yummier.

Outfit breakdown: Thanks to Soyfashion as my new sponsor! Rachel is super nice and generously put together a package for me to review. One of the tops was this lovely lace back tank, great for those hot days but still sticking with feminine style. It is so detailed and comfortable and the basic front is easily jazzed up with a multilayered or statement necklace. Once I get a neon lace bandeau, there's another look ready for this tank top. The rest of package is coming up in another post. Finally found a scallop hem skirt at Forever21, and the bright orange one I've been scoping out online. Unfortunately the only one left was a Medium, but it works as a paperbag waist skirt when belted. Lastly, finger mustache - be jelly.

Finally I got to browse SKY Boutique, a little clothing store that I always drool at through the window display  but haven't visited until now since it closes at 5 PM and heaven knows I never get off work that early. It was blazing hot as I ran across the street in my 4-inch + wedges after finishing another MCAT Bio chapter and to my dismay the shop owner was closing up early. Luckily, she saw my "nuuuuuuu" face and unlocked the door and omigod I never knew a room could hold that many beautiful pieces. Almost every single thing called my name but they were way out of my budget (most clothing $40-80). However, there was a $20 sale rack and I found the cutest sleeveless royal blue romper that I can't wait to show you. I tried it on and the slightly flared bottom did me in and the owner helped me cut off the tag. In the end, I introduced myself to Ariana (sp? super pretty name) as a fashion blogger and it was a crazy IRL moment. Soon I'm going to interview her and hopefully show you lovely pictures of her wonderful store (St. Louis readers - you're in luck!). I proudly wore the romper to an impromptu trip to the theatre to watch Captain America in 3D. Pretty good, and the guy is really dapper. Girls, go get some eye candy xD

Later, friends came over and made dinner and it was all good fun. Sunday, I went into work for a good 5 hours to test subjects. Beep. Chair. Beep. There's something calming about blasting nostalgic music while doing some work in the empty office surrounded by an empty hallway. Here's to break room coffee and Miss American Pie *cheers*
